PETALING JAYA: The 12th edition of the Asean Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) 2015 will feature distinguished global speakers on current, future economic and business issues.

ABIS 2015, which is organised by the Asean Business Advisory Council (Asean-BAC), will see addresses by United States President Barack Obama, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India.

The programme will be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and will host more than 20 speakers from around the globe, consisting of thought leaders, regional economists, key business players and other Asean experts.

One of the discussion topics will be the review of progress on the Asean Economic Community (AEC).

“The AEC is a requisite framework in the regional integration process and its progress will be the main topics discussed at ABIS, alongside the all-important post-2015 economic agenda for Asean”, said ABIS 2015 chairman Tan Sri Dr Munir Abdul Majid.

This year, the summit is themed “Business for the People” and will involve discussions on issues of financial integration in the Asean economy. Also included are issues on the small-medium enterprises agenda, women and young entrepreneurship.

Post-2015 emphasis would be placed on the importance of innovation, digitalisation and sustainable development, given their significant and long-term impact on the community-building process, Munir added.

“Asean-BAC this year alone produced two reports – one already presented at the Asean-BAC Dialogue with Asean Leaders held in April this year, and subsequently discussed further in August with the Asean Economic Ministers.

“The second report will be presented later this week and findings from various private sector discussions will be included and forwarded to the highest level of the regional decision-making process,” said Munir.

ABIS 2015 is expected to attract 800 participants from multinational corporations, regional conglomerates and businesses from around the world.

It will be held at the Shangri-La from Nov 20, 2015 till Nov 21, 2015.
