KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) — The 12th edition of the Asean Business & Investment Summit (ABIS) will serve as the central platform for private sector input and discussions on economic issues in the region.
In a statement, the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) said ABIS 2015, to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 20th and 21, will be officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Organised by ASEAN-BAC, the programme would also feature distinguished addresses by United States President Barack Obama, the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“It will host more than 20 speakers from around the globe, consisting of thought leaders, regional economists, key business players and other ASEAN experts.
“A number of ASEAN Economic ministers will discuss and the review the progress of the Asean Economic Community,” said ABIS 2015 Chairman Tan Sri Dr Munir Abdul Majid in a statement.
He said the investment and business summit was expected to attract some 800 participants representing multi-national corporations, regional conglomerates and businesses from around the world.
“We are honoured to have global political and economic leaders and partners – particularly the leaders of the US, Japan and India to join us in marking the Asean Community’s increasing significance,” Munir said.
He also said the AEC was a requisite framework in the regional integration process and its progress would be the main topics discussed at ABIS alongside the all-important post-2015 economic agenda for ASEAN.
Themed, “Business for the People”, ABIS would have designated discussions on the overarching issues of financial integration in the ASEAN economy and prevailing people-centric issues such as the SME agenda, women and young entrepreneurship.
“Post-2015 emphasis will be placed on the importance of innovation, digitalisation and sustainable development, taking into consideration their significant and long-term impact on the community-building process,” he added.
ABIS 2015 will also see the presentation of the 8th ASEAN Business Awards, the leading business success showcase programme, in recognition of regional business excellence.
