AirAsia awarded ‘Priority Integration Sector in Aviation’

KUCHING: AirAsia Bhd (AirAsia) has been awarded the ‘Priority Integration Sector in Aviation’ at the eighth Asean Business Awards 2015 yesterday for its contribution towards Asean’s economic growth and the aviation industry.
The award was presented by the Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to Aireen Omar, chief executive officer (CEO) of AirAsia Bhd at a ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur.
AirAsia qualified to enter this category in the Asean Business Awards 2015 after it was awarded the Priority Integration Sector Award in Aviation at the Asean Business Awards Malaysia held in April 2015.
Omar said, “AirAsia is continuously pushing the envelope on how we can serve the Asean community better, and we are grateful for this recognition.
“We have introduced the AirAsia Asean Pass, which enables travellers, especially those outside of Asean to connect throughout the region with ease, and it has seen very encouraging responses. We are committed to building and expanding the Asean tourism and aviation industry, and look forward to working with everyone.”
The Priority Integration Sectors Excellence Awards is presented to the most outstanding and successful Asean companies contributing to Asean’s economic growth and prosperity.
Total of 12 Awards will be given out to each Priority Integration Sector which are Agro-Based, Automotive, Aviation, e-Asean, Electronics, Fisheries, Healthcare, Logistics, Rubber-based, Textiles, Tourism, and Wood-Based.
Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, chairman of AirAsia X Bhd was also honoured at the ceremony with the Asean-BAC Lifetime Achievement Award for her trailblazing efforts to raise the trade profile of Malaysia and Asean.
The Asean-BAC Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an individual who has shown outstanding leadership, passion and commitment and played an active role in realising the aims and purpose of Asean in areas relating to economic growth, social progress or the sociocultural evolution of Asean.
The AirAsia Group connects all ten Asean countries with a total of 149 routes throughout Asean, which 55 of them are exclusive routes operated only by AirAsia with destinations such as Pattaya, Pontianak, Kalibo (Boracay), Lombok, Surat Thani and many more.
