KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) — Pewter manufacturer and retailer Royal Selangor International Sdn Bhd’s (Royal Selangor) managing director Tan Sri Yong Pih Kon was named the recipient of the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 6th ASEAN Business Awards Malaysia (ABAM) ceremony here tonight.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak presented Yong with the award in recognition of his exceptional business success and immense contributions to the Malaysian economy and business community spanning more than 45 years.

Also present were International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and ASEAN Business Advisory Council Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Dr Mohd Munir Abdul Majid.

Established in 1885, Royal Selangor under Yong has grown into the largest manufacturer and retailer of pewter of its type in the world, with the respected brand widely recognised as the leader in the industry.

The 6th ABAM, which celebrated local enterprises that had created positive impact on the growth of the regional economy and helped elevate ASEAN’s economic potential, was held in conjunction with the upcoming 26th ASEAN Summit.

Organised by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Malaysia, ABAM was established as an official side-event to the summit scheduled for April 26 and 27.

The award recipients were selected on the basis of four core criteria — growth, employment, corporate and social responsibility, and innovation.

Besides the Lifetime Achievement award, categories for the 16 awards included Success Story won by rubber producer Goodway Integrated Industries Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Boon Wee Tai and CEO of the Year clinched by Maybank CEO Datuk Abdul Farid Alias.

The award recipients will be automatically nominated for the 8th ASEAN Business Awards in conjunction with the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit in November.
