Kuala Lumpur, 27 February 2023 – ASEAN-BAC Malaysia announces today that the Malaysian government has appointed Tan Sri Nazir Razak as its Chairman, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Mr Lim Chern Yuan as Council Members for the period 2023 to 2026.
Tan Sri Nazir is the Founding Partner of ASEAN private equity fund Ikhlas Capital and former Chairman of CIMB Berhad (CIMB). Tan Sri Tony is the Chief Executive Officer of Capital A Berhad, while Mr Lim Chern Yuan is Group Chief Executive Officer of Yinson.
The ASEAN-BAC has been mandated by the ASEAN leaders to provide private sector feedback and guidance to boost ASEAN’s efforts towards economic integration since 2003. Its council members are appointed by the ministries in charge and comprise high-level CEOs of companies from each member country.
“I would like to thank the Prime Minister, the Minister of International Trade and Industry, and the Malaysian government for this appointment. ASEAN-BAC Malaysia will continue to be an integral partner in supporting Malaysia’s various ASEAN endeavours. ASEAN-BAC Malaysia will also use the lead time before Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025 to strengthen strategic relationships and conversations between the private sector, the government and the ASEAN organisation,” said Tan Sri Nazir.
ASEAN-BAC Malaysia was previously chaired by Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Munir Majid, Chairman of CARI ASEAN Research and Advocacy (CARI) and, with council members Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon of Royal Selangor and Mr Raja Singham of BAC Education Group.
