ASEAN Climate Forum: Accelerating , 2 Sept
SEAN-BAC Malaysia Executive Director Ms Jukhee Hong, who also chairs the ASEANBAC Green and Sustainable Economy Working Group (GSE WG), was a speaker on the ‘Accelerating the Net Zero Transition in ASEAN’ panel at the ASEAN Climate Forum.
According to Ms Hong, awareness and perception are the most significant predictors of climate actions compared to other factors such as market pressures and government policy and regulation — as such, adopting climate actions requires 4Cs – Conviction, Capacity, Compliance and Compassion.
Ms. Hong advocated for government policies to focus on building conviction in society and among businesses, as well as technological and financial capacity and capability building. She also noted the importance of having compassion for the struggles of the Global South for a just transition.
The panel also featured Dr Achala Abeysinghe of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Vineet Mittal of the Avaada Group, Matt Gray of TransitionZero, Avina Sugiarta of East Ventures, Lucita Jasmin of APRIL Group, and moderator Mark Wehling of BloombergNEF.
