3rd ASEAN-BAC Malaysia Circle (ABMC) Meeting (01/2024), 18 Mar 2024

ASEAN-BAC Malaysia convened its third ASEAN-BAC Malaysia Circle (ABMC) Meeting, chaired by Chairman Tan Sri Nazir Razak, with welcoming remarks delivered by the Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Yang Berhormat Tuan Chin Tong Liew, who was also the host of this meeting. Other attendees of the meeting were fellow Council Member Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, Executive Director Ms. Jukhee Hong, ABMC members, government agencies, and knowledge partners.

Yang Berhormat Tuan Chin Tong Liew stressed the importance of regional integration and the significance of the upcoming year 2025 in influencing ASEAN’s direction and he emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting ASEAN-BAC initiatives and fostering an environment conducive to business growth and innovation within ASEAN.

The meeting also discussed the updates of ASEAN-BAC Malaysia’s legacy projects and initiatives chaired by the ABMC members to be championed during the Malaysian Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025, as well as an overview of the upcoming events in 2024.

Key ministries and agencies, including Bursa Malaysia, Securities Commission Malaysia, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), ERIA: Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, SIRIM Berhad and Standards Board, were also represented, contributing valuable insights and perspectives.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Sustainable Finance Institute Asia (SFIA), who served as knowledge partners.
