2025 ASEAN Banking and Finance Summit

Chairman Tan Sri Nazir Razak was invited to speak at the Leadership Panel on Governance and Transformation: Future-Proof Banks at the 2025 ASEAN Banking and Finance Summit earlier today. He was joined by fellow panel speakers Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Munir Majid, President of ASEAN Business Club, Chairman of CARI ASEAN Research and Advocacy, Founding Chairman of Securities Commission Malaysia, and Former Chairman of CIMB and Bank Muamalat; YM Tunku Dato’ Ahmad Burhanuddin Tunku Datuk Seri Adnan, Director of Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad; and YM Raja Datin Paduka Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz, Chief Executive Officer of AEON Bank (M) Berhad.

His panel, moderated by Datuk Seri Mohamed Iqbal Rawther, Chairman of the Economic Club of Kuala Lumpur, Deputy Chairman of KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific, and First Executive Director of Institute of Bankers Malaysia, focused on stewardship and leadership challenges in the evolving financial landscape, emphasising the importance of building trust in governance and transforming banks to be future-ready. Key discussions also revolved around enhancing board effectiveness to strengthen decision-making processes in a rapidly changing environment.

The summit, which brought together leading banking professionals and policymakers, explored how ASEAN’s financial institutions can adapt to emerging challenges by embracing technology, talent, and trust (3Ts). It also addressed the need for financial innovation, sustainable banking, and the advancement of digital finance to support ASEAN’s economic integration and growth.
