Empowering MSMEs through TikTok Shop’s ASEAN partnership

Social commerce platform TikTok Shop is expanding its support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Southeast Asia through a new partnership with the ASEAN Foundation and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC). The collaboration brings the SOAR Together Program (Supporting Our Artisans and Retailers) to the region, aiming to help local businesses grow in the digital space.

“With an aim to future-scale businesses and foster greater inclusivity and sustainable growth, it’s very apt that we are launching this program during Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, supporting the theme of ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability,’” said Chanida Klyphun, director of Southeast Asia Public Policy at TikTok.

Boosting local businesses in the digital economy

Through this initiative, MSMEs will gain access to digital business training, guidance from TikTok Shop experts, and hands-on learning, especially in live selling. Participants will also have the chance to connect with fellow business owners, government leaders, and other stakeholders across the region.

MSMEs form a major part of ASEAN’s economy, making up over 97% of businesses and playing a key role in creating jobs and supporting local communities. However, they still face issues such as lack of funding, limited training, and challenges in reaching larger markets.

Creating a space for inclusive growth

TikTok Shop sees its platform as more than a marketplace — it aims to help small business owners connect with new customers and tell their stories through content. The SOAR Together Program supports this mission by focusing on community-driven growth and digital access for all.

The program aligns with ASEAN’s goals to develop globally competitive MSMEs and use technology as a driver for inclusive growth. Applications for interested MSMEs across ASEAN are now open.
