South China Morning Post (SCMP) China Conference 2025

Chairman Tan Sri Nazir Razak spoke earlier today at the South China Morning Post SCMP China Conference 2025. His panel discussion, moderated by Zuraidah Ibrahim, Executive Managing Editor of the South China Morning Post, explored ASEAN’s economic prospects amid geopolitical challenges. The conversation examined the intricate relationship between geopolitical shifts and economic opportunities in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on Malaysia’s strategic role within ASEAN.
As the global economy undergoes major shifts due to post-pandemic recovery, geopolitical tensions, and emerging technologies, the discussion highlighted ASEAN’s ability to navigate these changes. The panel explored how the region can leverage its strategic position and partnerships—especially with China—to drive economic growth, strengthen trade ties, and enhance regional stability in an increasingly complex global landscape.
Joining Tan Sri Nazir on the panel were Amb. Chan Heng Chee, Ambassador-at-Large at Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Honorary Professor at SUTD’s Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities; Prof. Frederick Ma, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Board of FWD Group; and Dr. Thitinan Pongsudhirak, Professor of International Relations and Senior Fellow at the Institute of Security and International Studies, Chulalongkorn University.
