AEM – ASEAN BAC Consultation

AEM – ASEAN BAC Consultation

The 23rd AEM–ASEAN-BAC Consultation took place on 23 September 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, chaired by the Minister of MITI YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, who is also the chair of the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Meeting 2025

During the session, Tan Sri Nazir Razak, who led the ASEAN-BAC delegation, delivered a comprehensive update on ASEAN-BAC’s 12 priorities for 2025, highlighting the Council’s efforts in driving sustainable development, digital transformation, talent mobility, and trade facilitation across the region. He emphasised that the private sector is central to achieving ASEAN Vision 2045, particularly in fostering financial integration, innovation, and robust public–private partnerships that enhance the region’s competitiveness and resilience.

Concluding the consultation, Tan Sri Nazir highlighted that in 2025, ASEAN-BAC had completed four key reports, set up four new platforms to advance its agenda, made significant progress with ASEAN initiatives and B2B deals, initiated reforms to strengthen the platform, and enhanced economic relations with other countries and regions. ASEAN-BAC’s legacy projects, the ASEAN Business Entity and ASEAN Common Carbon Framework, are both recognised in the joint-media statement released by the AEM.
