Dato’ Omar Siddiq Bin Amin Noer Rashid

Non-Independent Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer

Dato’ Omar was appointed as the Non-Independent Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on 31 March 2022.

Dato’ Omar graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He is a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He is also a CFA charterholder.

Prior to his appointment to HSBC Malaysia, Dato’ Omar was the Deputy CEO, Malaysia and CEO, Group Wholesale Banking at CIMB Group Holdings Berhad. Before that, he has held other senior leadership roles including Group Chief Operating Officer at CIMB Group Holdings Berhad, Head of Group Wholesale Banking at RHB Bank Berhad, Executive Director/Group Chief Financial Officer at Malaysia Airlines Berhad and Executive Director in the Investments Division at Khazanah Nasional Berhad.

Dato’ Omar is a Non-Independent Executive Director of HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad and Co-Deputy Chair of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce Berhad. He is also the Chairman of Special Committee for the Iron and Steel Industry in Malaysia – Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia, and Advisory Council of Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera – Ministry of Economy.

HSBC Bank Malaysia introduced the nation’s first automated teller machine (ATM), and launched Electronic Touch Banking and Hexagon – the Group’s global PC-based banking financial services platform – in the early 1980s.

HSBCnet has Malaysia’s first security technology, Virtual Keyboard, and HSBC customers were among the earliest to use online cheque-image enquiry technology.

Customers of HSBC Bank Malaysia were also the first to benefit from account updates via text messages and since September 2000, customers have been able to trade shares listed on Bursa Malaysia online with selected stockbroking companies. In July 2001, HSBC launched ChequeScan to make deposits faster and simpler.

In 2020, HSBC Malaysia became the first bank in Malaysia to launch a digital account opening journey with 24/7 Self-Service Machine for identification and verification process
