The rapid rise of AI presents several challenges, including ethical concerns, security risks, legal issues, social and cultural implications, and job displacement. ASEAN faces unique challenges in addressing these issues due to its dependence on foreign AI technologies, nascent AI policy frameworks, and a fragmented approach to managing external pressures. This initiative seeks to address these challenges by facilitating coordination, enabling ASEAN to develop cohesive AI policies, and ensuring the region can harness AI’s benefits in a responsible and sustainable manner.
